AF malfunction with some EF 24-105mm f4L IS II lenses

Canon has found that some EF 24-105mm f4L IS II USM lenses exhibit an AF operation-related malfunction. At the wide-angle end, focus is not achieved properly when peripheral AF points are selected, regardless of the AF area selection mode.

Affected Lenses
If the first two digits in the serial number (see the image below) of your lens are 48, 49, 50 or 51, then your lens may possibly be affected.

How to check if your lens is affected:
(1)   Visit Canon's serial number checker page at:
https://secure1.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/serial/ef/ef241052.html
(2)   Input your lens’ serial number (10 digits) and then click the [Submit] button. Double check that the serial number you entered is correct before you click the [Submit] button.
(3)   One of the following three messages will be displayed:
       •   Your lens is NOT an affected product
       •   Your lens is an affected product
       •   Invalid number
(The list of affected lenses will be updated periodically in accordance with the handling status.)

If your lens is affected, support will be provided free-of-charge regardless of the warranty status. Please note that even if your lens is affected, inspection/repairs for any issue other than the above phenomenon will be handled as normal repairs. If you wish to make a request for support for this issue, please attach the lens cap and dust cap to the lens and take/send the lens only to a Canon Service Centre.
